So, I’m driving down the busy Middle Country Road, feeling the pangs of hunger slowly take hold. I start eyeing places to potentially eat at. I notice the familiar golden, red, and white Tex’s banner and decide to pull into the parking lot. Immediately greeted by the friendly and welcoming staff as soon as I walk in, I notice the display on their menu advertising their new Nashville Hot Chicken sandwich and decided to give that a shot since I have a palate for various spicy foods-don’t mean to brag here. I spoke to the gentleman behind the counter and he informed me of the three different versions of their new Nashville sandwich: The “Hot” flavor is made with the regular flour; The “Fiery” flavor is made with the brand new spicy flour; the “Inferno” flavor totally fires it up with not only the spicy flour but with the well-known and loved hell sauce! I’m feeling a little daring so I set my mind and taste-buds on the “Fiery” sandwich. I get home and open up the box. Now as y’all know, half of the enjoyment of food is in the details of how it's presented to you, and the presentation of the sandwich is top-notch. The sandwich actually looked exactly like it did in the picture of its advertisement in the restaurant: The potato bun gave off a very fresh, appetizing shine to it. The aroma of sauce definitely carried a sense of spicy pepper to it, but it also surprisingly gave off a tanginess with a BBQ base. I lift the bun to check out what's going on underneath the hood. The portion of the chicken was hefty, so they’re definitely not skimping out on that like some places do. The chicken itself is fully covered in this mouth-watering sauce that I can’t wait to bite into at this point. On top of the chicken were slices of pickles to accentuate and balance the spice and zest with a little hint of sour. Moment of truth-I take the first bite. You know how some “spicy” burgers and wings advertise themselves as spicy, but the spiciness comes in as a very off putting and sometimes unbearable after taste. Yea, that totally wasn’t the case with this “Fiery” sandwich. Right off the bat, I felt that spice and zest, and it stayed with me the duration of the meal. This definitely testified to the freshness of the ingredients with the meticulous attention paid to balancing the flavors so they worked well together to create a genuine spicy experience that was creating a craving for more. Not one flavor overpowered another. I enjoyed every single bite to the very last of that spicy, zesty, sour and tender, moist chicken. I want more was the last thought I had as soon as I finished eating that Nashville sandwich-Compliments to the chef on a job well done on this one. Definitely going back there again to try out the other “Hot” and “Inferno” versions of the sandwich. For those of you who prefer the classic chicken sandwich that y’all have come to enjoy and love, don’t despair, it's still available to order through the Tex's app.
